Cycling, why?

Cycling, why?

Why would anyone want to cycle on a daily basis? That was a question I used to ask myself when I watched those videos of pro-cyclists and how they train for their upcoming events.
As I started to develop a love and passion towards cycling, I found that it got easier to get myself to cycle every day. That was because I started to like cycling. At first, it was all about exercising and fitness, but now it's about the sport and my passion for it. It used to be extremely difficult to regularly carry my overly-heavy mountain bike off the racks and out of the house and to the roads. The simple thought of bringing my bike out was enough to dis-interest me from cycling. It is in times like this where you have to put in the effort to get yourself out to cycle, whether it is to get fitter or for fun.

Personally, it is the energy I felt after a bike ride that kept me going back to it. It is refreshing and energizing to go for a bike ride in the morning even before people were awake.
Things that might motivate you to cycle regularly…

  • Cycling can increase your stamina
Cycling is mainly an aerobic activity, which means that your heart, blood vessels and lungs all get a workout. You will breathe deeper, perspire and experience increased body temperature, which will improve your overall fitness level. The health benefits of regular cycling includes increased cardiovascular fitness.

  • Cycling can decrease your stress levels
It has been proven that cycling can possibly reduce your stress levels.

  • Decreased Body Fat Levels

It is no secret that cycling can reduce your body fat levels. This is because cycling is also an exercise that burns quite a lot of calories.

  • Decreases your likelihood of cancer
Many researchers have studied the relationship between exercise and cancer, especially colon and breast cancer. Research has shown that if you cycle, the chance of bowel cancer is reduced. Some evidence suggests that regular cycling reduces the risk of breast cancer.

  • Decreases chances of Diabetes
The rate of type 2 diabetes is increasing and is a serious public health concern. Lack of physical activity is thought to be a major reason why people develop this condition. Large-scale research in Finland found that people who cycled for more than 30 minutes per day had a 40 per lower risk of developing diabetes.
So Why Not Give Cycling a Try?
Cycling can help to protect you from serious diseases such as stroke, heart attack, some cancers, depression, diabetes, obesity and arthritis. Riding a bike is healthy, fun and a low-impact form of exercise for all ages. Go Out there and stay healthy while having fun!
