Why is Self-care Important? 5 Easy Habits to Get started

WStartedhy is Self-care Important? And 5 Habits to Get .

Self-care is a very popular topic these days, but do you really know what self-care is all about?
Self-care is something that is crucial for our physical, emotional and mental well-being. You shouldn’t neglect self-care. If you have not heard of self-care before you should definitely read this article.

As for today, we will be talking about What Self care really is, why we should implement self-care habits in our lives and what we can do.

Firstly, What is Self-care?

Self-care is basically treating yourself with the same kindness ad you would be to others. Self-care is caring for yourself enough to respect yourself physically, mentally and emotionally.

It also involves self-compassion to ensure that you would not encounter a burnout.

When practised correctly, self-care has long-term benefit for the mind, the body, or both.

So, why is it that important?
To answer that question, here are the benefits of practising Self-care.

  • A Healthy work-life balance
Overwork may lead you to burnout which means you are exhausted mentally and sometimes physically too. This will lead to you being less productive, disorganized and emotionally depleted.

Professional self-care habits like taking intermittent breaks (getting food, taking a walk), setting professional boundaries, avoiding overextending, etc. ensure that you stay sharp, motivated and healthy. This all means you would also get better productivity, sounds good, doesn't it :D

  • Increased Self Knowledge
Practising self-care requires you to think about what you really love doing. The act of finding out what makes you feel driven and inspired can help you understand yourself a lot better.

Sometimes, this can even spark a change in career or a reprioritization of previously abandoned hobbies. Maybe this might help you find a passion, or might push you to get a better job which suits you better.

Still don't know what your passion is? Maybe you need a little advice on how you can find your passion? here's an article I have written to help people who have yet to find their passion.

  • Better physical health
As mentioned above, Self-care is not only about your mental well-being but also includes your physical well-being. There are many self-care habits that would benefit you physically and today, I will be sharing a few.
If you want to improve the quality of your life, you must do so using good habits. You have to eliminate bad habits and form good habits. Easier said than done, right? Well, with the blog post I wrote a while ago, you can form habits easier! Click on this! -- How to Form a New Habit.

With all that said, here are 5 habits you can pick up to get started.
  • Keep a daily journal, and be totally honest about your feelings.
This is for the benefit of your emotional health. At the end of the day, reflect on what has happened that day. Write down how you feel about all that has happened that day and what you can do to improve on yourself.

  • Let yourself Cry when you need to.
Keeping those emotions bottled up in yourself is definitely not healthy for you emotionally. So, let them out.

  • Keep up a daily meditation or mindfulness practice.
This doesn’t have to be a religious experience. Simply practising the art of meditation will boost your overall happiness, decrease stress, lower blood pressure, and ease anxieties.

All it takes is 15 minutes of mindful meditation to achieve this habit. Sit quietly and be present. Don’t think about the past or the future. Don’t dwell on things or worry, just be in the moment. Sit silently with your eyes closed and listen to the sounds around you. Feel the air moving in and out of your lungs, the warmth of the sun on your shoulders, the coolness of the breeze moving across the room, and so on. Just be present. That’s all it takes.

In addition, practice daily gratitude. Spend a few minutes a day listing all the things you are grateful for.

  • Simply go for a walk.
Take your mind off the present stress and anything you are currently facing. Take a break and go for a walk.

  • Stop Overthinking.

When you overthink, your judgments get cloudy and your stress gets elevated. You spend too much time in the negative. It can become difficult to act. You would be mentally stressing yourself.

Whether you're afraid because you've failed in the past, or you're fearful of trying or overgeneralizing some other failure, remember that just because things did not work out before does not mean that has to be the outcome every time. Remember, every opportunity is a new beginning, a place to start again.

Also, stop chasing perfection. Being ambitious is great but aiming for perfection is unrealistic, impractical, and debilitating.

5 Steps to Being Productive

5 Steps to Being Productive Firstly, What is being Productive? Productivity is often describes a person's capability to do a lot of work, but is can refer to anything that produces a lot. A Productive day would mean to complete more things in a less amount of time but also doing it effectively.   Productivity is the amount of output produced per work hour. In other words, the calculation is: Productivity = output / work hours. Here are some points to remember, Sleep. Sleep more. I know it can be tempting to stay up at night to do whatever do but you would wake up the next day feeling more exhausted. Its hard to be productive while yawning and trying to stay awake. I suggest you have at least 6-8 hours of sleep a day. It will also be better if you regulate your sleeping schedule and sleep at the same time everyday even if it is the weekends and also wake up at the same time if possible. Plan out your week.  It’s extremely important to plan you...
